Historical Note: Pope Barrow McIntire was born in 1924 in Savannah, Georgia. He was the sixth child of Francis Percival and Lucy Barrow McIntire. McIntire graduated from Savannah High School in 1941 and attended Swarthmore College. With the outbreak of World War II, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, flying a B-17 bomber in the European and Pacific theaters. McIntire married Idelle Palmour Holmes on July 27, 1945, shortly before being deployed to the Pacific. With the end of the war, Mr. McIntire entered the Lumkin Law School at the University of Georgia. After graduating, McIntire set up practice with Jones, Williams, Dorsey and Hill in Atlanta. He moved to King and Spalding in 1953, where he continued to practice law until his retirement in 1987. Pope and Palmour had three daughters, Palmour, Sarah, and Kathleen. Mr. McIntire died in July 2005.
