Scope and Contents of the Materials

Policies are organized into eight series that correspond to the activities to which they relate within the university: Facilities, Finance and Business, Governance, Information Technology, Legal, Operations, Personnel, and Students.

Biographical Note

The Policy Process Council is a collaborative and representative body that manages, monitors, and maintains institutional policies and KSU’s policy portal. While the Council has no policy making authority, its purpose is to assure the policy review and approval process is followed and that only policies approved through KSU’s shared governance process are made available via the policy portal.

An individual's use of computing resources in a university environment is not an absolute, personal right; rather it is a privilege conditional on the individual's compliance with federal and state laws, institutional policy, and generally acceptable use protocols. The Computer Usage Policy defines what constitutes acceptable and unacceptable use of Kennesaw State University (KSU) computing facilities and resources. In using the computing resources of KSU the user agrees to abide by all applicable University policies and procedures as well as all applicable local, state, and federal laws. KSU reserves the right to review any accounts and files created on University resources. Per the University System of Georgia's Appropriate Use Policy, individuals are held accountable for any misuse of their assigned network identification (NetID), computer system, and network access.

This policy establishes conditions for the use of a Kennesaw State University Access Account and its associated security requirements. These requirements are necessary to help ensure personal privacy and to protect the security of business, research, and academic interactions throughout the University. Furthermore, this policy informs KSU faculty, staff, and students on the guidelines to protect data integrity and safeguard against security breaches caused by improperly sharing passwords. This policy applies to (but is not limited to) the following KSU enterprise systems: NetID, OpenLDAP, Active Directory, Banner, and PeopleSoft. It is the responsibility of the individual user to appropriately select and protect his/her passwords.

Kennesaw State University (KSU) encourages faculty, staff, and students to publish on the World Wide Web (WWW) within the constraints of existing laws and policies. Through this medium, KSU offers a rich opportunity for the institution and individuals associated with KSU. However, use of the WWW presents a dichotomy for policy makers to ensure the appropriate freedom of expression while maintaining a consistent, cohesive institutional presence. This policy imparts minimal stylistic guidelines and provides general guidance to the legal implications of publishing on the World Wide Web. Development of WWW content is subject to applicable University policies such as copyright, "fair use," and intellectual property rights; Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act; Federal Computer Abuse Amendment Act; Federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act; and other applicable state and federal laws.
