Records Relating to Talon Magazine | Kennesaw State University Archives

Talisman Quarterly Magazine began publishing during the fall quarter of 1995 as a new format for the Talisman yearbook, which discontinued publication the same year. Its purpose was to capture events and student life during the previous quarter/semester. With the v.4 n.1 issue, Fall 1998, the magazine shortened its name to Talisman. The Student Activities and Budget Advisory Committee (SABAC) approved a name change to Sphere in fall 2001. The events of September 11, 2001, interruped publication and no issues were released under the new name. Publication of the magazine resumed in the summer of 2002 under the name of Talon, with 1 to 3 issues per year.

The format, focus, and name of the magazine changed with the August 2008 issue, which was smaller in size and concentrated on people rather than events. It was renamed Talon Monthly and published monthly. In January 2009, publication was reduced to every other month. With the July 2010 issue, Talon Monthly returned to a larger format. In August 2011 the name changed to Talon Magazine.

With the consolidation of Kennesaw State University and Southern Polytechnic State University in January 2015, student publications were integrated. Southern Polytechnic's periodical, The Sting, assumed the function of student lifestyle reporting, which includes editorials, features, games and technology, and sports. Talon Magazine ceased publication with the April 2015 issue.

Talon was published by Student Media, which is a division of the Department of Student Life. Student Life resides within the Division of Student Success.
